Just took home a new CR-V LX. Need a roof rack. Dealer wanted almost
$400 installed. I know the retail is $262 for the genuine item (08L02-S9A-102), and they go for a little over $200 online, with shipping. I see a Canadian outfit selling compatible racks on eBay for $136 delivered. Says they are rated for 100 lbs vs 75 lbs for the Honda, which is a nice plus. Anyone know if this is legit? |

Where are you, and do you need a higher carrying capacity? Check this also, if you haven't seen it: http://www.drivah.com/marketplace/de...6d7fae20b0d494 'Curly' |

I don't necessarily _need_ higher capacity, but to get another 25 lbs,and for significantly less money, doesn't it just make sense? I discovered that web site today. Very nice indeed. I like the forums and may be spending more time there. Regarding the Yakima rack shown there, I'm concerned about its higher wind resistance due to its tubular cross members as the rack will be permanently installed. Its specifications raises another question... While it says its maximum weight load is 125 lbs, it also says: "The total weight of the racks and loads must not exceed Yakima's weight limit for that vehicle's factory rack." So does that mean that the weight limit for _any_ rack on that vehicle is really 75 lbs - the weight limit of the Honda brand rack? Perhaps the weight limit is really determined by the vehicle's roof? Yes - it says their rack capacities are limited to whatever the factory rack is. So, no rack is rated for more than 75 lbs. One is best off buying the one with the lowest cost and/or lowest wind cross-section. |
