I tried depressing the lever and pulling but it won't come off. Is
there some trick to it?

Probably either you're not pushing the lever in far enough, or there's some
corrosion on the assembly. Try wiggling a bit as you pull.

thanks, actually what it has is that hook arm that I had to jiggle it
and push it down first and then pull it up.
