OK, I had to remove the P/S pump to do some engine work. I put it back in,
put the belt back (running in the same direction), bled the system, but it still squeals when I first start the car until it has warmed up. I tried tightening the belt, but even if it is tighter than the manual says it should be for a used belt it squeals. I tried belt dressing. That helped some, but not totally. I tried to be sure that I wiped any residual P/S fluid from the pully before I put on the belt. Do I just need to replace the belt, is there a problem with the P/S system (air?), or what other causes? With the belt off of the motor the pump turns fine. I would like to avoid replacing the belt since it is only about 30k miles old. 1993 Accord LX P/S, Pwr Brakes, Automatic, A/C. TIA -- KWW |

I would stop pssing around and replace the belt. Slipping belt might not be
too healthy for the pulley either. -- Later 'gator NOSPAMddlee10@hotmail.com remove NOSPAM for email "Graham W" <graham@his.com.puter.INVALID> wrote in message news:43ee9718$0$82676$ed2619ec@ptn-nntp-reader03.plus.net... > > > KWW wrote: > > OK, I had to remove the P/S pump to do some engine work. If so, it could be your compressor clutch that is squealing. Very common problem particularly if you overtension the belt. |
