Default 2003 Accord Front Brakes

I have a Honda Accord LXG 2003 Canadian modal. Today I droped off my
car at local dealer for regular service. It has only 43K KM's. My
dealer called my back and said my front brakes are totally worn out.
Has any one seen this before?

Thanks
Dabbulu

Brake wear is very dependent on the type of driving you do and your driving
habits. If you drive a lot in stop and go traffic and ride the brakes, then
your brakes will wear out much faster than someone who spends most of their
time on the highway and brakes gently.

There have been a number of posts about rear pads wearing early,
including my 2003 EX V6 which needed pads at 25,000 miles. I'm at
55,000 miles now and it looks like it will require fronts and rears by
60,000. Wife's car - a lot of stop and go.

if its an automatic tranny? sure. bout 30k miles seems normal. you are
under NO obligation to have the dealer do the work. my local dealer has
a "special" for front brakes- $169.

the pads themselves are likely around $20, and it takes bout an hr to
do. your call.

That's not unusual if you have an auto trans. I replaced both front and
back twice on my EX-V6 by 70K miles. I think that the Honda pads wear
relatively faster than other pads.

I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one report here of brake pads needing
replacement a little over 20k miles (= 32k km).

Like others are saying, mileage is not the greatest indicator of brake pad
wear. Highway driving puts on many miles but requires little use of the
brakes per mile. City driving puts on much fewer miles but requires much
more frequent use of brakes per mile.

My 91 Civic's original OEM brake pads lasted only 43k miles.

One caveat: I do not recommend using "longer life" non-OEM pads. Longer life
pads are made of a harder material. Sure such "long life" pads last longer,
but this will tend to be at the expense of the rotors. (OTOH, some here have
made a persuasive argument that quality rotors may be had for close to the
cost of new brake pads.)

Lot of discussion in the archives on this.
