Hi,
I've looked around but I still need some clarification regarding exactly which rack to buy for my 1992 honda accord station wagon. (canoes) I walked out to the car and peeled up the plastic strip on the roof and found threaded stubs sticking up where a rack would mount. I desire to purchase a used rack, will any yakima or thule rack that is "non-gutter" work? If not, which ones in particular? I think I will then need to purchase the correct honda kit for it, yes? I read somewhere that someone did not use an extender kit for their honda station wagon rack and their boats and rack flew off. What is the extender kit? Would something like the rack below work?: http://cgi.ebay.com/Yakima-Q-Tower-R...QQcmdZViewItem Thanks! I would feel weird asking a Yakima rep when I plan to buy it used. Sincerely, Tor |

Tor,
I looked at these some time ago, and seem to recall that the roofrack manufacturers' websites had recommendations as to which model fit which car. Dan (This account is not used for email.) What is the > extender kit? > > ----------------------------- You just need a rack that will put the weight on the roof, and hold on to the door openings. The Honda 'stubs' won't tolerate the fantastic upward forces of bouncing loads. It's not the weight, but the lifting forces that will take a factory rack off the car. I got one from Canadian Tire. It's a Frontier. Huge Thule rooftop box on top of a CR-V. No problem. WAY cheaper than thule or Yakima . . . 'Curly' |
