I have a 2001 Accord EX 4 cyc with automatic transmission and am
wondering if anyone knows if the you can increase the life of the tranny by putting it in neutral at stop lights. I have not been able to locate any technical information on doing this. Mark |

No. The constant in and out of gear is stressing all aspects of the drivetrain, from motor mounts to transmission internals. |

Best way to make it last longer is to change the tranny fluid. The owner's manual is a bit conservative about how soon to change it. I'd do it after 50,000 miles. Use only Honda Z1. 'Curly' |

The owners manual, maybe 82 or 92, states that if you're waiting in gear on your automatic for longer than XX minutes (usually a very loooong wait) shift to neutral in to reduce wear on the transmission. Seriously, don't shift to neutral at every stop light. This could shorten the transmission's life. |
