Default Automatic Transmission

I have a 2001 Accord EX 4 cyc with automatic transmission and am
wondering if anyone knows if the you can increase the life of the
tranny by putting it in neutral at stop lights. I have not been able to
locate any technical information on doing this.

No. The constant in and out of gear is stressing all aspects of the
drivetrain, from motor mounts to transmission internals.

If you were supposed to do that, it would say so in the owner's manual.
Best way to make it last longer is to change the tranny fluid. The
owner's manual is a bit conservative about how soon to change it. I'd do
it after 50,000 miles. Use only Honda Z1.

I saw change it at 30K - got a tranny error code a with a little over
50K - fluid was burnt - drive at hwy speeds most of time - almost no
stop n go traffic driving.

Use only honda atf unless you want to put in a new tranny.

It did say. The owners manual, maybe 82 or 92, states that if you're
waiting in gear on your automatic for longer than XX minutes (usually
a very loooong wait) shift to neutral in to reduce wear on the
transmission.

Seriously, don't shift to neutral at every stop light. This could shorten
the transmission's life.
