One local dealership averages $1500 off MSRP (advertised and in stock) since
the day they were introduced. I have no doubt they'd offer the same if I
preordered an Si.

From what I have read across the board, the Civic is getting very good
reviews. I looked over a 4-dr EX at our local dealer and liked it. I will
be very interested to see the new SI and compare it with my Prelude.

Don't forget (how couldn't you - its totally forgetable) the Plymouth
Horizon got these "honors". It was just a bad copy of the VW Rabbit. They
definately sell this award.

Not that the Civic is a bad car.

the first ones even used the VW 1.6l engine, until chrysler could make
enough engines.

For what its worth, back in those days only domestic manufacturers
were eligible for the COTY award. There would be a separate Import
COTY. Maybe the Omni/Horizon was the best new domestic car that year.
It was certainly the high point of Chrysler's offerings that year.
Unless you wanted fine Corinthian leather.

If the Si beats out the Corvette as best new sports car, It might also win
car-of-year with AJAC association (which is for all of Canada).

It's because word leaked out that sexual security is evident by the
disproportionate length of one's car hood.

personally, i'd /not/ trade the prelude for the si unless i was only
ever going to drive in straight lines. the si has a great motor, but
the prelude has wishbones on all 4 corners. that's a fundamentally
better suspension arrangement than the mcpherson garbage the bean
counters have inflicted on the honda engineering team with the civic.

don't get me wrong, mcpherson handles fine for average driving,
freeways, etc. but if you ever drive hard, wishbone is the only
way to go.
