Huh? The codes are required for sound system components installed in
vehicles. It's for your protection. If anyone steals the components,
theyy care useless to them unless they have the code. Once the unit is
disconnected from the battery, it requires a code to be enetered in
order for it to function. It's a good thing, and Hinda allows you to
register your vehicle on the its web site and put your code there in
case you happen to misplaced the card that comes with coded systems.

The anti-thieft components blink with a red light to alert thieves that
they aren't of any use to them if they steal it. They move on to
something else. After I had my pull-out stereo stolen when I didn't
pull it out for just a five minute stop, I relaized the brilliance of
these systems. On the down side, my trainer bought a used truck with a
coded system, and after he had an accident, he couldn't use it because
the previous owner didn't transfer the ifnormation. His insurance
covered the replacement of the stereo, thank goodness, but that's the
breaks. If you want security, that's the way to go.

Not sure what the previous poster is babbling about.

Flip the stereo over and you shall see a Serial No. Call Honda or
Acura to retrieve the 5 digit code, which the stereo prompts you upon
installation.

I am not certain that this theft prevention works, because Honda dealer
has no problem handing out the code.

We have had coded radios in the UK for many years, and it has greatly
reduced the rate of radio theft. I do not have hard data, but I (as a
number of others I know) have had a 'normal' radio stolen, but never a
coded radio. Coded radios are also 'encouraged' by the insurance companies.

If the dealership operates legitimately, they do not just hand out the
radio anti-theft code to just anyone who wants it.In my city,I have to
give them positive ID,and actually tell them my SSN to get the code.

Or you have a relationship with the dealer, and walk into the room with
the computer and watch the tech or service writer pull it up on Honda's
system. Or just call him on the phone.

Yeah, if they've never heard of you, they have every reason not to give
it to you. After all, that's the purpose behind such a code, right?

Show the receipt indicating you own the unit to any dealer and they'll provide
you the code.
