Honda Car Forum

The Honda Element has a load capacity of 675 pounds. I have seen load
capacity definitions that state that this excludes the weight of the
driver (150 pounds). However, not all definitions are clear about this.
Obviously, on a load capacity of 675 pounds this does make a
difference. What is the TRUTH:
a) The load capacity does not include a 150 pound driver (so I can
really ADD 675 pounds)
b) The load capacity does include a 150 pound driver (so I can really
ADD only 525 pounds)

yeah. Doesn't that suck?

That is the TOTAL load capacity of the vehicle, period--driver,
passengers, cargo.

Once you've loaded up dad, mom, a couple kids in the car seats, you're
up to 450 pounds or so--that's 67% of load capacity, just with people.

WOW that is nothing - must be a warmed over civic. Looked on the honda
web site for load capacity - not to be found - not a wonder why. And
this thing pretends to be a half assed truck.

That was pretty much my response when I first discovered this.

It pretty much put the Element out of contention for me.

y'all ever been to europe? ever driven on their roads in the summer
when the locals are on vacation? they have these teeny little cars with
trailers bobbing along behind, and they have no problem hauling
thousands of pounds of clutter. get yourself a braked trailer and a
towing hitch. then follow the /european/ towing capacity specs and
everything will be just dandy. the only reason you can't load so much
into the car is because there's a trade between ride comfort and load
capacity. honda have gone with non-truck style comfort, just like the
europeans. i don't see that it's a problem.

From page 168 in the owner's manual.
I don't know how Honda could make it any clearer...

The maximum load limit for your
vehicle is 675 lbs (308 kg). This
figure includes the total weight of all
occupants, cargo, accessories, and
the tongue weight if you are towing a

And are you sure that you only weigh 150 pounds ??? I know I don't :-((
