Hi everyone,
I have an intermittent problem with my ABS light that just recently started about 2 weeks ago. My father took my Integra out 2 weeks ago and noticed that the ABS light came on. When I had a chance to look at it, the ABS light was off on the next start. It hasn't come on since yesterday when I left the car sitting for about 24 hrs. I drove it last night to put in gas and after I started the car on the light came back on. Since it was dark and I didn't want to play around with it last night I waited until this afternoon to check the error code. Well what a surprise, the light was once again out today. I've had a look at a couple of posts on google and some suggested that I change the fluid and purge out the air. I can be about 95% (car was my cousin's) sure that the fluid hasn't been changed in the ABS (I changed the fluid this year in the regular brake lines) could this be what is causing my intermittent problem? The filler value and the bleeder valve are very close together on the ABS unit, if I keep adding fluid and draining it from the bleeder valve will that cycle through the entire system? I'll try to obtain the code the next time it comes on but any help before I can obtain the code would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick |

These systems try to maintain pressure and if they fail to hold pressure after pumping themselves up a number of times, then the light comes on, usually about 2 minutes after you start it up. If this is what is happening, then if you are lucky, it could be debris interfering with the internal valves. Change the fluid (make sure you follow the prescribed procedure - you don't want to introduce air into the system). After you change the fluid, then exercise the ABS. The light has to be off. find a gravel or dirt road and lock the brakes from about 40 mph so that the ABS engages. If there is crud in the valves, this will sometimes clear it up. There was also a TSB on the ABS on the '95 integras that identified a problem with leaks at the external plugs. If this is the problem, then it actually is fixable (usually its not). |

The ABS pump hasn't show any excessive time when it has activated
before or while it came on so I don't think that there is a problem with that. I'm going to change the fluid in the morning and hope for the best. We're finally going to get some sun in the northeast tomorrow so that I can work on this after a week of rain. The pump won't run constantly. It just comes on for about half a second
once every 30 seconds or so. Once the light comes on, the system is disabled, so nothing runs after that.
