The intake resonator on my Honda Civic EX (1994) VTEC is designed that
way for a GOOD reason!!!! The japanese, who designed it, went to school for many years.... they didn't just say.."Well... let's just stick this big piece of plastic on the front of the car, just for the hell of it... even if it hurts performance." They designed it for a reason. Without it, the intake doesn't RESONATE! It's tuned very specifically for the engine... it sets up a vibration, just like blowing over the top of a big plastice bottle does. (Try it, you'll see what I mean)... the engine sounds meaner and has a "kick" to it WITH THE RESONATOR IN PLACE! If you remove it, the kick disappears, and so does the "roar" of the engine. The snorkel is placed exactly at the seam in the hood, where cooler air gets into the compartment while driving, so NO NEED for a cold-air-intake! (Gee.. those jap's are smart!) The resonator DOESN'T make the intake quieter... it makes it RESONATE, like a musical instrument! The intake valves like it that way... the whole intake system likes the vibes it sets up. Blow across the top of an open plastic bottle ... you'll see what I mean. Make that plastice bottle resonate and feel the vibes! |

So... leave the resonator alone. If you removed it, put it back on.
If you threw it away, then search EBay for another one. I bought a japanese car because they know how to make cars. Honda KNOWS how to make engines, they just happen to design cars around it ; ) |
