Default 97 Honda Civic front suspension replacement

Hi :

The dealer told me that I would need around 1500 $ to replace the front
suspension in my 97 Honda Civic. Is that a decent price ?
I dont know the specifics of what exactly needs replacement.

Thanks,
Sagar

What's being replaced?

Then ask. Did you get a written quote?

I have to do some front end work on my 98 civic.

Lower drivers balljoint, $55
Passenger upper control arm $100

Already did
Lower passenger balljoint $55
Drivers outer tie rod $45

These are all in canadian dollars (1.225 canadian dollars/US dollar)

Also, all of the above are very easy DIY items.

PS unless you have really bad roads or hit curbs alot, its unlikely your
front suspension (ie shocks and springs) are totally worn out.

get a second opinion!

If you're in the Toronto area, it shouldn't be difficult to find an
independent mechanic that's familiar with the 97 Civic. Even the backyard
mechanics are probably now pro's at fixing that particular model (which has
been around for 2 generation). It doesn't make sense to pay premium dollars
for the Dealer's expertise, unless the car is still under warranty or too
new (like 06 Civic) to trust to an independent (unless you want to be their
guinea pig).

What is it doing to make you think it needs replacement - I have a 97
accord with 190K miles on it and the front end is as tight as a - well
it's tight. Unless you have a whole bunch of miles on it or have hit
curbs or something - don't see how you could have worn it out.

What makes you think something is wrong - I avoid dealers like the
plague - they are always looking for some excuse to lighten your
wallet. Some really bad ones like to cut CV joints- if something is
wrong with the front end either DIY or find some reputable independent
- will cost a fraction of what the dealer charges.
