It was worth a try anyway.

Thanks. I stand corrected. Can't wait to see if my car has what
you're talking about.

------------------------

Here's the 'long' answer:

Four wires run the clock. Yellow = ACC power, White / blue tracer = On
all the time, Black is chassis ground, and Red / Black tracer is
ILLUMINATION input.

When the ILLUMINATION input is zero, the backlight runs at 100%. Apply
any voltage from the dash lights, and it drops to 50% , then down to
maybe 5% depending on the position of the brightness control. To solve
your problem, install a switch in the Red/Black line to prevent the
clock knowing the dash lights have come on. You could mount the switch
on one of the the two blank plugs to the left of the steering wheel, or
even get a matching used Honda switch from a cruise control or fog lamps.

At least you have a clock, my 1998 crv clock died and I cant find one.
the dealer wants roughly 300 bucks for a new one. I could invest in
shares in big ben for that ammount..

Does anyone know if any other honda model carries the same clock as
the 1998 crv. The local Honda parts guy wasn't much help.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

What country are you in? The 99, 00, and '01 are probably the same
clock. I picked up a used one from the wreckers for under $40 CAN.

You can just install a Hamsar DRL module (www.hamsar.com) to solve the
'dark clock' problem (turning _all_ your lights on just to achieve DRL
is a big waste of fuel), or install a switch in the line from the
illumination circuit (so the clock doesn't know you've turned the
headlights on)..

I was in North Carolina, and am now back home in Brampton (GTA)
Canada. Where did you get your clock from. Your in Toronto right
Curly. I work in the Markham area. I cant seem to find a wrecker with
any CRV's.
Thanks.

I'm near Edmonton. Check your yellow pages. We have one called
'Honda/Toy' and you can guess what they specialize in. Search harder.

eBay is the next step, but they don't come up too often.

Was your old clock of the same model type. What was wrong with it and
do you still have it.
Thanks

I wondered if you'd ask that . . My '97 didn't come with a clock, (nor
the harness), but it had the knock-out and it's easy to add the wires.
