You could have a bad fuse for the fuel pump. On my 89 Legend when the fuel
pump fuse went bad, the check engine light would stay on... (and you couldn't crank the car, on that one.) A bad main relay can cause all kinds of problem though, because it powers not only the fuel pump but also the computer.
