Hi,
Thank you to all who replied to my previous post "Are new hondas maintenance free". These days I am looking to change my Accord 93 LX with 200000km on it. I love this car but only reason is that my wife cannot drive stick shift and we do not want to have 2 cars. First I thought to buy a new Corolla or Civic and I test drove both 2005 models but after driving this accord for some years, I did not like anyone of these new models. (seems like very small/conjusted from inside and even my 93 accord has more kick then these) Now I considering 2000-2002 Accord Automatic. I would like to know what are the things I need to consider before making a final deal. I was told that Accords after 1998 need timing belt replacement after 160Kkm, is that true? Are there any other major items that I need to consider? Thank you in advance. |

Well, whatever you do, do NOT get involved in a 98-02 Accord V6. The transmission problems on those models were horrendous. That limits you to the 4 cylinder. I had a 2000 Accord 4 cylinder, and I thought it had plenty of power, but I had a stick. Best you test drive it. If you get an 01 or 02 EX, you'll get the great sounding radio that has both cassette and six CD changer all inside the dash unit. Nice. |

If you are considering an Accord in that year range, get one with the VTEC 4-cylinder. The non-VTEC is barely adequate, while a handful of V6 models have transmission issues. As for the timing belt, I'm not sure what the interval is for that Accord; it may be 160,000km (depends on which engine). I have a '93 Accord, and its interval is 144,000km (or 6 years). |

I would suggest you teach your wife to drive a stick shift like millions of
other women do. EX models are the best ones to consider since they have more features than the LX models. Run a carfax report before you buy it. The 2002's are slighly better since minor improvements were made each year. I have a 1999 Accord EX and I love it--no major problems and it has 61,000 miles on it. -- NEWSGROUP SUBSCRIBERS MOTTO We respect those subscribers that ask for advice or provide advice.
