I do not know the mileage on my timing belt and want to inspect it to
see if it should be replaced. What is the best way to do this inspection adequately with the least amount of disassembly. [Is the answer, remove the valve cover to expose the upper part of the belt? or is that not good enough for a propper inspection?] Any related advice appreciated. I understand replacement is somewhat complicated and could take an experienced mechanic about 2 to 3 hours. Plse email responsed directly to richardbentz@gmail.com Thnx Dick |

The teeth can look perfect outwardly, but the internal fibers will be on their last legs. If you're not sure when it was done last, get it done now. If the belt breaks, you're looking at potential valve damage that could be uneconomical to fix. > Any related advice appreciated. > I understand replacement is somewhat complicated and could take an > experienced mechanic about 2 to 3 hours. I did do the belt, water pump and idler; so I will be good for a
while. It took my mechanic about 4 hours @ $ 65 per hour. Not cheap, but necessary. I did not use a Honda timing belt, so I guess I'd better stick to a 60 K mi replacement interval for the future. Thnx Dick |
