Hi,
I am not able to reach http://tegger.com/hondafaq/oilfilter...r_comparo.html using two different browsers. All I get is a blank page. I'd be interested in reading the above discussion as I am considering a switch to 5W30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil for my 2001 4cyl Accord and would like to make sure I use a decent filter in there as well. Regards, Alex |

I had taken it down for a while. It's fixed now. That page is only a comparison between Honda's old and new size filters. It is not a test of filter efficiency. There are no tests available on the Internet that give comparative results of controlled filtration tests for any oil filters. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Thank you for fixing the page. I've read everything I could find on the matter and agree with you that there is little consensus on to be found. My plan is to extend the OCI on this car by using Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic oil, but I am undecided on what filter to use if I'd like to go for about a 10,000 mile OCI - new Honda OEM filters or some aftermarket ones like Purolator, Amsoil, or Baldwin. I guess I'll have to go for the anecdotal evidence and the few cases where people sent their oil in for testing after extended OCIs. Regards, Alex |

You can obsses with the rest of them in the www.bobistheoilguy.com forums. I'm running the new 5w-30 M1 EP now, but have done extended drains (~8500) with standard M1 and pureone filters for years and always had great running/looking civic engines, mostly just inspection under the valve covers during valve adjustments. |

Hi MAT, I've read those forums and agree that for some people it has become a sot of an obsession, hehe. I've already decided on pretty much the same oil/filter combination as you describe. We'll see how it goes. Best wishes, Alex. |
