Default 91 honda civic - accelerating, stalling problem - fuel or clutch??????

I have a 91 honda civic dx. It's a 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter, manual
transmission. I have been having some problems. When I drive my car and
shift, the car seems like it might stall. It kind of jerks some and does
not want to accelerate. Also, I was stopped at a red light. When the light
changed, I started going a few inches, but then the car stalled. Before it
stalled, it kind of did the same jerk thing as when I was shifting and
accelerating. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is the clutch
going on it? Or is there a fuel problem, like the fuel pump or something?
If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks a
lot.

I would start looking into changing the fuel filter, sparkplugs, sparkplugs
wires, cap and rotor for starters. Also I would inspect the air filter.
When was the last time you did an oil change?

For plug wires, cap, and rotor I would use Honda OEM if your planning to
keep the car for a long time.

Thanks for your reply, Chris.

This morning, after my first message post, I went out to start my car and
now it will not even start at all. It cranks, but will not fire up.
We changed the fuel filter about a year and a half ago, along with the
distributor cap and rotor. We have not changed the spark plugs or wires or
the air filter. I will inspect those. I checked the oil level. It was lower
than it should be. So, I put some more in. We changed the oil six months
ago. It is due for another one I guess. I will check out the wires and
plugs, etc.. and keep you updated. Let me know if you have any other
ideas. Thanks a lot.

MAn, ... Change the oil every 4 months, or sooner, replace plugs, and air
filter, and wires if you haven;'t don'e it in a while, and I assume you
haven't, and I don't know how long you have had this car.
Here's a basic idea if you bought this car used, change everything that
wears out, fluids, filters, plugs, wires; they don't last forever.

To your question, maybe this will help. I was having a stuttering problem
with my 91 civic comming off the line. I reasoned that it was probobly
electrical. I started off with the cap and rotor , found the set screw on
the rotor to be loose, Changed cap and rotor anyways as I had it off and my
stuttering problem is gone.
Hope you have the same luck, but for heavens sake, change the oil
frequently, and the timing belt of you don't know when it was last done.

Dan

Or NGK if OEM isn't readily available. I have been using these plugs and
wires on my 92 Civic for quite awhile.

Several things come to mind.
As other have mentioned, the fuel and igniton system
shhould be checked, repaired.
Change the fuel filter, spark plus, plug wires, rotator
and distributor cap.
If that doesn fix it, tyr some know good gas. The cheap
stuff can cause bad performance.
If the problem is still there, try some good fuel injector
cleaner. If all else fails, change to O2 (oxegen_
sensor. I have seen them act strange before the get
bad enough to set an error code. We cured a friends
hesitation in a 1990 civc (same engine and CEM) by
]cahnging the O2 sensor.
