for a used 2002 Honda Civic LX, 8600 miles, the salesman told me for
$10,000, it could be mine, provided I pay Cash and with no trade-in.
And I walked away. What an idiotic move, huh? I had the impression he
wanted to screw me, so I said no.

Now I have to go back to the dealership next week and negotiate for a
price that's higher than what he offered.

not necessarily. they all make "deals" like that, if you "buy it today".
if the car is such a great deal, it wont be there next week. if its
there, bring cash and tell em you want it. if they bullshit you, they
wouldve bullshitted you last week as well.

In my search for a 4Runner, I'm getting some good banter. I had a guy
tell me the one he had on the lot was "wholesale priced" and if it
didn't sell this weekend, they'd put it on a truck and ship it to
another dealer who would mark it up to retail. Another young buck almost
cried when I refused to give him my phone number.

eh- avoid all the BS and just go thru some place like sams, costco, AAA,
or autobytel. theyll all be within $100 or so from each other.

I'm buying used. I'm looking for a 2001 4Runner SR5 Sport, Black/Grey,
hoping
to find leather. So, if ya know of one.... I'm just up the freeway a
bit...

not offhand, but it seems private party would be the way to go. theres
always someone tired of the "old style", looking for something new to
fill their empty lives. that, or theyre tired of the gas prices and
insurance.
