Default SRS light on: Is this a warranty item on an out of warranty car?

I have a 2000 Accord EX 6 cyl. with 62,000 miles on it. My SRS light
came on a few days ago. I took it to my local Honda shop (not the
dealer). Their diagnostics test showed: "Code 09-3 Driver's Seat
Belt Switch Failure. Suggest return to dealer for check out under
Honda Warranty."

Now I don't have extended warranty, but aren't the seatbelts warranted
for 10 years or the life of the vehicle? And if so, would that extend
to this light coming on?

The bottom line question, of course, is when I take it to the dealer,
should they charge me for fixing this?

Thanks,
Sincerely,

Rick Burt

I certainly would try the warranty angle, but they will probably (and
rightfully) tell you that the seat belts work, so the life time seat
belt warranty does not apply.

You are (wrongfully) incorrect on all counts.

The Honda dealer came up with the same diagnostic code. He said it's
a faulty switch, and it's located in the seatbelt. So it IS covered
under the seatbelt warranty, and is no cost to me to fix it.

It's hard to say what is included with a particular item, especially when
it comes to the long warranties that are probably government mandated.
If there is a malfunction that lights a light, they probably have to fix
the light.

On my new Ford Escape, the transmission is considered an emissions item,
and is covered by a 150,000 mile warranty because it is AT-PZEV, with the
associated mandated warranty.

The ATin my Honda was extended to 7 years, 100,000 miles from Honda
due to complaints. The best thing to do is ask questions until you
get the right answer, and not rely on blanket statements from people
like Randolph who don't know.

To paraphrase my own answer, I suggested you ask the dealer to get it
fixed under warranty, but not to be surprised if the request is refused.
Hardly a blanket statement.

Randolph, you can paraphrase your response any which way you want, but
even that statement is WRONG.

You chose to put in the word *rightfully*, enclosing it in parentheses
to make your point.

I'd suggest you not give out advice unless you know what you're
talking about.

Cool. My last Honda vehicle became the property of my insurance
company after it got stripped. However - this is wording of the
warranty of my new car for comparison:

"SEATBELT LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY

SEAT BELT COVERAGE lasts for the useful life of the vehicle and
includes seat belts and related components which fail to function
properly during normal use.

This warranty does not apply to cosmetic appearance, such as color
fading, when the seat belts function properly. Coverage also
excludes any electrical related components or body anchor points."

Apparently the Honda seat belt warranty is also for the life of the
car with the exception of cosmetic wear. Also - it doesn't have
any exception for electrical components like mine has.

Where in the .pdf file link above is the exception for electrical
components?
