Hi folks! I need some help that I can't find online (even at Tire Rack) or
by Googling. I want to put winter tires (mounted on an extra set of rims) on my 2004 Accord EX V-6. The stock rims are 16x6.5. I recently bought a set of alloy rims (same size) that came off a 2003 Acura RSX. They already have the winter tires mounted on them. Thought I had it made until I mounted them on the car and quickly discovered that these rims do not have enough offset to clear the brake calipers. Prior to finding these extra alloy rims with almost-new winter tires on them, I had bought a set of steel rims (thinking I would have to shell out more $$$ for a new set of winter tires). Anyway, I'm stuck with a set of alloys that won't fit, and wonder if the steel rims will fit - before I go through the hassle of dismounting and remounting the tires on the steel rims. Here are the numbers and markings off each rim: Stock alloys: 16 x 6.5 JJ 55 (SDB 665A) Acura alloys that don't fit: 16 x 6.5 JJ 45 (S6M-665A) Steel rims: 16 x 6.5 JJ 26 (CMC 04/1 YK12) Will the 205/60R16 tires mounted on the steel rims clear the suspension? Can someone please help? Thanks in advance..... |

But steel wheels are thinner than aluminum wheels, so why not try fitting the steel wheel, without mounting a tire to it? The other issue here is that changing the offset will change the load on your wheel bearings. That could cause premature bearing failure. Dan (This account is not used for email.) |

I think you are going to have to mount one tire on one of the steel rims
and actually try it on your Accord (both front and rear) to find out for sure. I sympathize with you--if asked, without doing any research I would have put money on the Accure rims fitting the Accord properly. I guess the numbers tell the story. Good Luck.
