Thanks for the post...I have always told people about K and N filters but
the Rice Boys don't want to listen and they all want their cold air intakes.
What do they care about long term engine health? Not much since they cars
will be long thrashed or wrecked before the engine will be toasted due to
dirt bypass of the air filters.

interesting...

does delco make delco filters? or is it one of those deals where a
company like champion labs makes several different models for different
manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers?

It doesn't say and I don't know. If that were the case here, then the case
is even stronger for OEM. At least Honda gives very strict parameters to
FRAM when ordering their filters from them.

Interesting they did not test FRAM, considering FRAM's bad reputation on
the Internet.

or even a NAPA brand filter, or one of the champion labs ones. woulda
been interesting seeing 2 OEM filters tested, to see if thye pull
identical numbers. or 2 champion labs ones, like an STP and a walmart
(both champion).

i dont know if delco actually makes their filters, or farms them out. i
just think its a little odd that the delco filter is *that* far superior
in *every* single test compared to other paper filters.

yeah- id expect it to be at or near the top, but id also expect someone
to be able to come close to matching it in at least one category.

I'm skeptical. My use of K&N filters has matched the claims of K&N in my
25 years of using the product. Maybe they dont work in Diesels. (-:

what claims are those?

for the pedantic, grapic 4 shows the restriction of the filters, ie. the
difficulty of passing air through. if you /are/ a ricer and you're
prepared to sacrifice the longevity of all the money you invested in the
motor for a gain in air flow rate, then k&n is the way to go. i'd
personally never use one and would never buy a car that had, but hey, to
each their own.

I remember reading a story from a guy who did maintenance on a fleet
of earth moving equipment. Thought he could save money by replacing
the first stage paper filter with an oiled filter (believe it was
K&N). Within a few hours the second stage filters were clogging up.

I've put on over 100,000km on my K&N filter. But recently, I've switched
over to the regular Honda filter in order to maximized on my oil change
intervals. In the past, I used to change the oil at every 6000km, but now
I've extened the oil change intervals to every 16,000km. Even after 16,000km
of use, the Mobel-1 oil is still in great condition (however 1.5L of top-up
is required to reach 16,000km...).

If the car was running on the K&N filter and went 16,000km without an oil
change, I'd probably have to junk the car.
