Honda Car Forum

Had a window smashed just before a rainstorm a about a month ago, so I
taped some plastic in place with duct tape. When the shop replaced the
window the next day, they weren't careful about removing the tape, so
traces of the gum remain on the door.

Any suggestions on the best goop/methods to remove it, that won't damage
or stain the paint? Thanks,

I use WD40. Can you get that in the US? It's just light oil I think.

It says it's safe for autos. Quote from the FAQ:

1. Can I use Goo Gone to remove tar, stickers, grease off my car?

Goo Gone is safe on your car exterior, using instructions for hard
surfaces. It's safe on your upholstery and carpeting, using the
instructions for carpeting. It's safe on the vinyl and glass, but may
remove the tint from the tinted side of windows.


I have used it on my dryer's surface and it didn't damage the paint
there. Well, okay, it's a bad comparison...

WD40. The secret ingredient is "W"; gets rid of kerry edwards bumpersticker
residue.

Go with the WD-40 . . . . That's about all it's good for. Kentucky
Fried Chicken grease will do the same but it attracts animals. :-)

Thanks, all. Never crossed my mind to use WD-40, I'll give that a shot.
I know where the WD-40 is, but I misplaced the goo-gone long ago.

I've used goo-gone on my cars, being careful to have a wet rag ready to
wipe the area down after using it. Works great at getting sticky stuff
off. Rub very lightly.

Update: WD-40 worked perfectly.
