Default Hesitation Blues. Part III

Car: 1992 Accord EX with AT and 166,000 miles

Problem: Occasional hesitation including physically sticking throttle,
otherwise starting, idling, cruising, shutting down and mileage are all OK.

Thank you for your time and advice. I went to Advance Auto today and picked up
some throttle body cleaner. Before I used it I discovered that the throttle
cable on the side away from the gas pedal was non retracting and occasionally
stuck coming out. This cable runs from the side of the battery (where it has
like rubber bellows shrouding it) to the throttle. It is not always moving
freely. Otherwise, the throttle itself seemed to be OK.

How do I lubricate this cable and is there some type of spring which make it
return and takes up the slack?

As always, thanks in advance,

Jimbo

cable replacement is safest.

Thanks for the help. How long is the throttle cable? Does it run from the
accelerator all the way to the side of the battery or are there two seperate
cables?

I have a theory about how this all happened. My lower radiator hose chaffed
against the battery bracket and developed a slow leak. The antifreeze got into
the rubber boot at the end of the cable and gunked it up. But what is under the
boot? I only saw a cable. I would think that there is some type of spring.

Also, how much does the cable cost and how long will it take to install? Is the
end at the gas pedal difficult to change?

Someone talked about the danger of a sticky accelerator. When i was a kid my
father had a 1961 Rambler Classic station wagon which had an infamous "Jesus
Pin" in its accelerator linkage. So called because, if it fell out the car took
off and your first word was "Jesus!".

TIA,

Jimbo

can't remember the how many cables for your model - cruise, transmission
kickdown - doesn't matter. you only need to replace the one that's
sticking.

go to hondaautomotiveparts.com & check which one you want. or call.
they're quite helpful.

checking briefly, it's either in the $20 range or the $130 range. if
the latter, i'd go to a junk yard and see what i could find.

I hesitate to askI have recently developed a severe hesitation problem. Cyl 1 shows compression of 120. Other 3 have 150. If I squirt oil into 1, it also shows 150. There has been no change in compression or vacuum (18), but the hesitation and tom Honda 2 4 16 Apr 2005 04:42 pm
