I had major problems starting my car in hot weather earlier this summer,
classical main relay symptoms. I got it changed at the end of June, no problem since then, but summer's been quite reasonnable this year (from a Dallas point of view anyway). But today was very hot, humid, and sunny, and my car was in the sun all day, I didn't use it. I tried to start it around 6pm, same problem as before! Could it be that my new main relay got bad in less than 3 months? Or what else could it be? It's a '91 Accord, 198,500 miles. RAT |

He bought a new relay from a Honda dealership and the car would not start the next day. I pulled the realy, replaced it with a old one that I resoldered. When I checked his new relay, the solder joints looked as bad as the one in our God daughter's 1990 Civic. I resoldered both of his units, the old one, and his brand new one. I would love to take a look at all the dealership's relays in stocks. I am betting that they are all less then perfect. I have seen 5 realys in the last few weeks and they all have the same soldering defects. I am starting to wonder if the sub-contractor used low grade solder. I have worked in the electronic business for the last 30 years. I have worked on too many eletric devices to even list in my mind, and I have never seen a pattern of failure like this! So yournew realy may well have been defective when you bought it. If you saved the old one, get someone to remove the old solder and resolder the unit. Terry |
