Has anyone experienced a loss of the display on these radios and figured
out which connection(s) are cracked on the circuit board? I've no problem opening the sucker up to resolder whatever's cracked. It's rare that the display comes on and it makes it difficult to tune... and as soon as I disconnect it I'll be without a radio until I can get the code back in, which could be difficult without the display as well. I'm not glued to this OEM radio/cassette--the one in my 85 Pontiac was better. Can anyone recommend a decent brand/model replacement that will fit the space--is the space standard? I don't want to have to rip up the dash to get something else in. Thanks. Abe |

The opening is a standard DIN opening. I have had both a Blaupunkt and a Harman/Kardon in my '94 Civic. See http://www.installdr.com/ for removal and installation instructions. The only problem you may run into is that the after-market rear supports don't always fit. The Blaupunkt was installed by a stereo dealer, and they skipped the rear support altogether. The Harman/Kardon was installed by myself, and I got a piece of galvanized steel from the lumber section of Home Depot that I bent into a Z shape for rear support. > > Thanks. > > Abe |
