Default Ok? to put 5W30-50 Syn Oil for 04 Accord instead of 5W-20

My accord will have the first lube job shortly. I am not too impressed
with the Honda-exclusive thin oil of 5W20.

Is there advantage or disadvantage of ignoring the recommendation?

Daniel

In this case, are you one of the new Honda Accord engineer? If so, why did
you indicated on the manual to use 5W20 and now you are not too impressed of
your design?

Doesn't the owners manual show alternatives?
If it were mine, I would do as you said unless there it is clear it would void
the warranty.

What is there to not be impressed with? it works. I lived in the Dallas
area for last few years and have used nothing but 5/20 in my Odyssey and
various Fords. If you worried about the heat getting to it, don't.

And the obvious reason, you'll loose that 1/1000 of a MPG changing to a
higher viscosity.

Thanks
That is exactly what I need. To clarify some of the points made in
here: 04 Accord manual does recommend Honda-made 5W20 and there is no
synthetic at all.

This one has been beat to death on many forums. All of the evidence is
that a high quality 5W-20 will give you all the protection you could want.
Check out http://forums.bobistheoilguy.com/ if you want to research and
debate the issue at length.
