I recently had my honda in for preventive maint. and was alarmed to find out
that the carrier bearings are bad and was told I needed a new transmission at the cost of $3500. What cause this to happen at 80,000 miles and why was it not detected at earlier preventive maint. appts. is the question I have been asking myself. Has this been a problem for this model car? Any type of recall or justification? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Trans fluid level OK? |

Fluid levels were ok. I heard a thumping sound as if there was a rock
caught in the tire tread and when I couldnt find a rock I brought it in to find out it was my carrier bearings. i'm suspicious. "carrier bearings" are more usually found on planetary
type automatics. honda are a completely different design. can you get your mechanic to be more specific? what symptoms do /you/ notice? The differential Carrier bearings only cost 50 each, figure 6 hours shop
labor total. Myself, I charge $125 + parts.......... http://www.bettendorf.com/~mrbone/pi...0Tranny/LS%20d iff%20bearing.jpg "jim beam" <nospam@example.net> wrote in message news:IsOdnTNm8vLBgWbdRVn-gQ@comcast.com... > i'm suspicious. 5 hours???? just to R&R the tranny????
I replace clutches in under 3 hours!!!! Only takes 10-15 minutes to split the case. Then remove guts, press off old bearings, press on new, check shim clearance, put case back together, install the tranny. BUT I highly doubt under normal driving and maintance the diff bearings are bad. Thankfully Honda replaced the tranny for free, and then a few months later they extended the tranny warranties to 100K miles. Got 115K on mine now, gotta keep my fingers crossed. |
