Hello there,
I have an '89 Honda Accord SEI. After it rains, water pours through the Sunroof when you move the car. It appears that the water is collecting in the rear of the roof. I have heard that this is from a clogged drain tube. Does anyone know any what to clear it, without taking the entire headliner out of the car? Does anyone know where this drain tube actually drains? I could try blowing compressed air through it, but the top end of the tube is inside the headliner, and I don't know where the bottom end is. Thanks in advance, K-A. |

When this happened on our '88, I took it to the Honda dealer who
charged me $62. It was well worth it not having to screw around trying to do it myself. Does anyone know any what to clear it, without taking the entire headliner out of the car?<< Did you look in the toolkit that came with the car? I can swear mine used to have some sort of tool to clean the drainholes with - I could be mistaken but it's worth a try. |

Usually they vent just behind the front wheel well liners and in the rear wheel well behind the rear wheels. Sometimes the latter tubes come off their connections and you get water in the trunk. The tubes get plugged with leaves and suchlike if the sunroof is left open under shade trees. To clear them a plumber's snake works fairly well, or some piano wire, but with the back ones you usually have to remove part of the trunk liner and disconnect the ends first. If water has been collecting in the drive mechanism wells, you had better check to see that the grease on the slides hasn't been washed away and that you aren't developing rust problems. |

To get to the rear drain tubes, remove the rear mud flaps (if you have them,
if not remove the screws holding the edge of the rear bumper) and pull the edge of the rear bumper cover away. You should be able to see where the tubes drain out. You can try cleaning them from that side. If that fails, you may have to remove the trim panels in the trunk and get the tubes from the inside.
