Hi,
This is a message for people in Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada. I purchased a used 2002 Honda Civic SiR from Markham Honda in Markham, Ontario, on March 8, 2004, trading in a 2002 Honda Civic Si-G, a car I was financing monthly payments to Honda Canada at the time. Approximately two weeks later, I found out that Markham Honda did not make the buyout payment for my trade-in car to Honda Canada (as part of the trade-in agreement), since money was taken out of my account and when I checked with Honda Canada, they stated I was still responsible for the lien. I then started the LONG AND FRUSTRATING process of trying to get Markham Honda to pay for the car they took. During that time, I had been told BY THE BUSINESS MANAGER that the payment was "in-transit", that it was "issued", and I would simply need to wait "another week". After waiting for another two weeks, I ended up speaking with the Sales Manager and this is what they found: the payment was not "in transit" as I was told by their Business Manager, nor was it "in process". It was never issued. It was as though Markham Honda decided to not pay for the car that they took from me. A payment was finally made one month after the original purchase date, except the payment amount did not cover the entire buyout amount since interest on the car loan was accrued during that time Markham Honda failed to make the payment. I discovered this towards the middle of April, and I again started calling and re-calling regarding the payment difference (~$100 Cdn), trying to get reimbursed for the interest payment that I got charged, again, because of the delay. Finally, on June 17, Markham Honda has offered to give me a COUPON that covers the interest that was charged to me, a COUPON to be used at their dealership. This difference of money is not a large sum of money. It is a matter of principle. They took my car, and they did not pay for it until after money was taken from my bank account and I started making phone calls everyday. And when they finally did make the payment, they fell short in their payment. And I can understand that human errors happen, so I called again to notify them of this error. After three months of pursuing payment from Markham Honda, the best they can do is give me a COUPON?? I suggested they pay for my upcoming scheduled maintenance, and they refused, stating that it was unfortunate that they wasted my time but there was nothing they could do. The ordeal that the dealership put me through is completely unreasonable and unacceptable, and the way they have responded to my complaint is utterly unprofessional. They have wasted my time with total disregard, and at the end of it all, they refused to make any kind of compensation for making the mistake. The "best" they can do is give me my money back through a coupon. Markham Honda is NOT the place for you to go to make a purchase. There were various other problems in addition to what I have stated here, and I personally will not go back to the dealership. ps: I have contacted them and told them to give me the money instead of a coupon. I am not returning to the dealership for any kind of service. The way the management at Markham Honda is treating me is absolutely reprehensible. The money is OWED to me by Markham Honda, and the dealership is NOT doing me any favours by returning me the fund. |

for that amount of money, just tell them you are planning to take them
to small claims court if they don't pay you. chances are, they won't want to go through the trouble. if they do, you got a pretty good chance of winning, I think. oh, and tell them you will complain to the BBB. trading in a 02 for a 02 is a bit weird. want to tell us why you did it? |

I totally agree with you. You are entitled to cash for that, not some
stupid coupon. I think it is good to expose that dealership on here. I just bought a 2000 CR-V from Pickering Honda(to all those not in Toronto, Pickering and Markham are neighbours in the Toronto Area) So far I am very happy with my sales experience. MUCH MUCH better than my sales experience at Village Chrysler in Ajax. I have had good luck in Pickering tho, as my experience with Pickering Volkswagen has been great as well.
