Default S light blinking - 91 Honda Accord LX

What's the most likely cause of a blinking "S" light in the instrument
panel on a 91 Hondar accord LX 4-speed Auto with sport-button on shifter.

I've not had any problems with the speedometer or cruise. Transmission
seems to shift fine. I've got about 130,000 miles on it. I'm debating
wether it's time to trade in this car...transmission problems would
definitely push me towards that decision!

Also, any suggestions on where to get it checked out that they'd have a
clue? I don't want to replace a transmission if it's just a sensor
I hesitate to bring it to the honda dealer...the local one just LOVES
replacing parts that don't have to be. Would the local Canadian Tire
have a clue I wonder?

Thanks!

Whoa !!! Canadian Tire can't accurately predict whether the SUN WILL
COME UP IN THE MORNING !!! That's pretty bad if your dealer is so
terrible that you'd think Canuck Tire was the next best thing in town
:-( :-(

There are some capacitors in your ECU that fail when the vehicle gets as
old as yours is. (I'm having a hard time finding the link ) there's a
good page that tells you what needs relacing, and you just pop the unit
out, go to somebody with a soldering pencil, and get them resoldered.
Meantime, you didn't say how many times you've changed your tranny
fluid..... Use only Honda fluid.

I just checked the engine code but shorting the ECU jumper under the
dash and reading the flashing "S" codes. I got a code 9, which seems to
be for "Cylinder position sensor". Now, I know very little about cars
other then general maintenance, and nothing about the electronics. It
seems that from what I'm reading on the internet, this could have to do
with anything from bad wiring, problems in the distributor, bad timing,
etc. That sound about right? Time to bring it in somewhere to have it
looked at I guess!

Michel, you should be able to find a small garage that specializes
in Japanese cars. There are two excellent shops in the Ottawa area
that I know of, and probably more. Please, for the sake of your car,
do not entrust it to a Canadian Tire.
