Any help with the following would be appreciated.
I need two replacement tires (rears) for a 2002 CRV. I would suppose that it's best to stay with the same size, but I wonder if it might be possible to get a quieter tire without sacrificing handling/safety. Can anyone recommend a model? Brands with good records? Thanks in advance, Rick |

Greetings;
I put Michelin HydroEdges (same size as factory) on my 2002 CR-V and have found them to be somewhat quieter. In the past (with the crappy, factory tires) I would not be able to hear the person (one of my kids mainly) talking if they were sitting behind me. Now it is far easier to hear. They handle very well in all circumstances other than one. When the roads are snow-covered and there is fresh snow on top of the snow-pack, it seems as if other cars can corner better than I. When accelerating there seems to be no problem (awd kicks in), and in all other conditions (rain, dry, slush, heavy slush, snow-pack) I have noticed absolutely no problems. However, that one issue seems to me to be quite real. Other than this one issue, I have been happy enough with them to put them on my 2001 CR-V as well. I have a 02 CR-V and I used Hydroedge too, but I went for 1 size bigger.
215/70-15, and it looks a lot better with the wider tire. It was a big improvement on wet roads and noise. I'm happy with them that I will put them on my civic when is time to replace tires. Other good choice is Michelin LTX M/S 225/70-15 (even bigger), and it a great tire too. You can go to http://gocrvclub.org/ and look for pictures and comments on both tires. Either one is good choice, I just went for hydroedge because it is better handling wet roads. It's iffy whether you'll get two that are exactly the same circumfrence, and then you'll overload the AWD because it needs to see all four wheels spinning at the same speed. Also, rotating your tires will put differing loads on the differentials. If yours happens to be a FWD CRV, this is a moot point. Try a search on the topic 'RTAWD' at hondasuv.com for further understanding of the complications of incorrect tire size on an AWD vehicle... 'Curly' |
