I hear a funny metalic grinding noise coming from my engine
compartment. I can hear it when my car is idling, but it's also audible on the road. It seems to corrolate to some extent with a vibration that I feel in my gas pedal when I push it about half way down. My car is a 99 civic EX automatic transmission. Any idea what might be causing this? |

Does the frequency of the noise vary with engine speed? If so, check around the accessory belts for something being rubbed by a belt. Could also be a belt tensioner or a pulley going out. If the noise comes & goes, look at the exhaust system for a loose or damaged heat shield. If the noise is pretty much constant whenever the radiator fans are running, look for a bad bearing in one of the fan motors or an obstruction getting whacked by the fan. |

If your tires are not all the same size, you may feel it engage when you touch the brakes on good pavemant. If you have ABS, you need to be sure how to use it, so you don't get a surprise in a bad situation. Ask your dealer if they can lend you an ABS video. 'Curly' |

Here's a thought, 'cuz it happened to my '92 Prelude. As you're
standing in front of the car, looking into the engine compartment... If it's coming from the left side of the engine, it most likely is the "distributor". Search this word in Google and you'll find some answers. nooneinparticular314159@yahoo.com (Outlook User) wrote in message news:<2c346651.0406120654.49c94023@posting.google. com>... > I hear a funny metalic grinding noise coming from my engine > compartment.
