Default 98 Civic suddenly running rougher

Hey there,

My 98 Civic (SOHC non-VTec) has 194000km on it.

Until last week, it has been running like a top! but suddenly
it seems to not be doing as well on fuel, and seems to 'skip'
while idling. Also, I seem to be able to smell some
unburnt fuel inside the car.

I checked the PCV system, its all good, just wondering if
anyone has any bright ideas as to what to check?

If the spark plugs haven't been changed lately, I'd start there and give
it some premium gas. I've noticed that my 98 DX Hatch doesn't like the
regular gas when it's hot and humid outside.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++=

1__ A bad tank of gas? Try filling up with gasohol and see if it flushes
out the injectors.
2__ Timing belt may not be tight enough since last change, and has
jumped a tooth or two. It will certainly run 'different' if that
happens. Open valve cover / upper timing belt cover and see if it's
flapping enough to have jumped a tooth. :-)

thanks guys. I will chuck in some fuel injector cleaner next
tank.

How about my cap and rotor? They have not been changed in some time...

Plugs are pretty new, did them in March.

Timing Belt is due, but i checked it a week ago and it seemed
OK, though perhaps not as tight as I thought it should be, i will
check it again...

I've got 178,000km on my 1998 DX motor. I haven''t had any issues with caps
and rotors, but then, you've got 20,000km on me. If it's not the gas, then
now might be a good time to do the 2nd timing belt change.
