Honda Civic DX 1990
I changed an used distributor about two years ago. I have a one-month new clutch and all my valves are adjusted. My water pump and timing belt are about two years. My car ran smoothly for the first week after adjusting the valves, but the same old problem occur after that. The problem is that when I press on the gas pedal unexpectedly, it does not accelerate immediatelly. Some times it does not even accelerate. The engine is reving, but no acceleration. I took to so many mechanic, but no one knows what causes it. Any one has similar problem, please share. Thank you. |

Would a new clutch be slipping? I have my valves re-adjusted before put in a
new clutch. I'll check the clutch anyway. Thanks "mike" <mikein562athotmail@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:yr8uc.10533$IB.4754@attbi_s04... > > > > Some times it does not even accelerate. The engine is reving, but no > > acceleration. I > > clutch slipping? > > |

If the engine revs but the car speed doesn't proportionally increase to
exactly match it, then your clutch is slipping. With a clutch that's in good shape, there are very few situations that should be able to cause that. The clutch could be misadjusted, you could have a master or slave cylinder hanging up (the clutch is hydraulically actuated) or the new clutch could have been put in wrong. Sorry, but 90's were still cable operated, so that rules out a couple
of possible problem areas. A better question would be this; do you still have some freeplay when you step on the clutch pedal? If not, the cable may be adjusted too tight. You can change the adjustment yourself - just turn the white plastic nut on the clutch cable at the transmission. These are great possibilities. I'll check it tomorrow and let you guys
know. Please let me know more if there are other possibilities. Thanks all. ![]() "Marty Bose" <martyb@sonic.net> wrote in message news:300520041951006032%martyb@sonic.net... > Sorry, but 90's were still cable operated, so that rules out a couple > of possible problem areas. > > A better question would be this; do you still have some freeplay when > you step on the clutch pedal? Well, mine's a 91, and I was assuming that the shared components from 90-93
would have included clutch parts as well, but that was only an assumption. However, I just looked up the clutch components on Majestic Honda's parts server database, and it looks like the 90 Accord has a hydraulic clutch as I was imagining, so where are you getting your data from? Could be a date-of-manufacture thing. -Arthur Marty Bose wrote: > Sorry, but 90's were still cable operated, so that rules out a couple > of possible problem areas. > > A better question would be this; do you still have some freeplay when > you step on the clutch pedal?
