Hey Folks,
Just last year I had some 15x6.5 (19lbs) rims and P195 55 Yokohama Avid T4's put on my '99 Civic 4door EX which originally came with 14x6.5 (steel rims), P185 65 Firestones. But since then, I've been getting an audible creak from the rear of the car. It is always audible if I make a turn on an incline (hilly surface), making a turn over a pothole, or especially when there is allot of wieght in the rear seats (which normally wouldnt be a problem with my stock wheels). *My reasoning is, that the rear tires are hitting the wheel well? OR that the rims maybe too light which is what is causing the creak\squeek? *A friend's reasoning was that it maybe from the stock shocks? *Honda is telling me to bring it in, but you know what that means, a big long bill at the end of the day :S Thanks in advance. |

I don't think so - there's ample clearance for 195 and I don't see why light wheels have anything to do with it. >*A friend's reasoning was that it maybe from the stock shocks? > >*Honda is telling me to bring it in, but you know what that means, a big >long bill at the end of the day :S Yeah, they'll tell you they have this super Corning grease they can put in the bushings to quiet them, which involves taking it all apart - it's BS. Every Honda I've owned has a creak from the suspension - more in the rear but occasionally it happens in front too. For some models they came up with a sleeve which fits over the last two coils of the springs and that's where I've traced it too: as the epoxy coating on the springs wears away at the point of contact with the spring perch on the shock absorber you eventually get metal rubbing against metal. It comes and goes with the weather - gets worse after rain when a film of rust is present. I just live with it - try spraying some spray grease in the spring perch to see if it goes away for a while. I've had a similar situation with my 95EX Civic almost since new. One of these days I may get serious about locating the problem. I did stumble upon a Civic TSB covering rear suspension clunking noise due to a broken rear trailing arm bushing. Might be of interest. Whether this is a common problem, I don't know. Here's the TSB link in PDF... http://www.hondalac.com/service/Bulletins/x00-006e.pdf -- Mike |

Mike, thanks for your input. Only thing is its not really a "clunk" as
Honda's service bulletin describes. Its an annoying "creak" that occurs, and is even worse when I get heavy passengers sitting in the back :S Thanks once again ![]() "Mike" <mike-r@earthlink.net> wrote in message news:mike-r-2105042230340001@user-2iveli6.dialup.mindspring.com... > In article > <945rc.90121$0qd.39940@twister01.bloor.is.net.cabl e.rogers.com>, "Rick" > <senrick@rogers.com> wrote: > > > Hey Folks, > > > > Just last year I had some 15x6.5 (19lbs) rims and P195 55 > > Yokohama Avid T4's put on my '99 Civic 4door EX which originally came with > > 14x6.5 (steel rims), P185 65 Firestones. > > > > But since then, I've been getting an audible creak from the rear of the car. > > It is always audible if I make a turn on an incline (hilly surface), making > > a turn over a pothole, or especially when there is allot of wieght in the > > rear seats (which normally wouldnt be a problem with my stock wheels). > > > > *My reasoning is, that the rear tires are hitting the wheel well?
