Default Honda Odyssey tire options ?

I am shooping for tires for my 2001 Honda Odyssey LX ( w /stock steel
wheels) . The OEM tires are 215/65R/16 . I was told by a reputable
tire dealer that the more plentiful 225/60R/16 was an allowable
substitute . Is this coorect ? - discussion pleasee. - thanks

225/60R/16 will work fine. Slightly wider (225 vs 215), but the lower
profile (60 vs 65) will keep the tire diameter nearly the same so your
speedometer will still read right.

Probably ok, but if you look at www.tirerack.com you will find a large
selection of tires in the original 215/65-16 size.

I generally buy my tires from tirerack and then have a local shop install
them. The total cost has always ended up lower then the best price I could
get locally and the selection is terrific.

That's about right, but last time I got a better deal buying my tires from
discount tire. I purchased tires from tire rack 2 times, but this time I
went to my local shop. Just look around before you buy.
BTW, I got a set of Michelin Hydroedge for my CR-V and they are excellent
tires, check it out too.

I use 225/60/16 on a 99 Ody with alloy wheels. The odometer is 5% off,
according to markers on the I-5. Since your has steel wheels, I'm not sure
if the width on those wheels are compatible with the wider tires. Check a
tire chart that has 225 to see if it could fit your wheel.

If you're planning to change the tire size here's a good site to check that
will calculate how the different tire sizes will affect the speedometer.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

With the new 225/60R-16 the speedometer will read 1.4% too fast, or your
speedometer may read 60mph while you're actually traveling 59.2 mph.

Anyway I just bought a set from Tirerack as well and had 'em shipped to a
local shop. Even with a 20% discount on the tires I saved about a hundred
bucks vs. going to the Firestone for my Bridgestone tires. This is the
bottom line cost for 4 tires installed. It's also an excellent web site for
tire comparisons.
