I bought a 4-cyl because of local gas prices (double than US). My 4-iVTEC
gives me between 10-11.5 km per liter... closer to 10.

What's your experience with V6?

(I realize that US drivers usually get more highway driving than down here
in Chile)

My 5 speed standard iVtec gets 30 Mpg.

Quite good actually. I wasn't able to exactly calculate my mileage
because of a little gas station problem after my first long trip, but
it was 30MPG or better with 4500mi on the car, 6 speed.

I get 23 - 24mpg in mixed (50-50) highway-local driving . . . the best
I've ever done on a trip is 29mpg . . .

I get anywhere from 22 to 28 mpg on my V6 Accord depending on the driving
mix.

I wonder if octane may make a difference here. We know that all
retail gasoline varieties are isocaloric, but Honda states that use of
high-octane gasoline in the V6 may produce 5-10 more HP than regular
unleaded (I presume by allowing more efficient ignition timing). So
more power could mean that it takes a little less 93-octane fuel than
87-octane to produce the same RPM and torque.
To that end, when my 2003 V6 automatic had about 3,000 miles on it, I
got 33 mpg on hilly/mountainous I-80 across northern Pennsylvania
while burning 93-octane gas. Since then, I've use 87-octane, and even
with the car better broken in and on flatter terrain in Ohio, I get
only about 29-30 mpg on the Interstate in the same weather conditions.

I'm seeing the same numbers with mine.
29 mpg is about the upper limit.

Mixed driving I get 26 - 27.5. Seems like driving faster on the
interstate get's better mileage.

Where does Honda state the use of higher octane gasoline may produce higher
horsepower???

it was in an interview with some honda engineers. supposedly only works on
cetrain V6s?
