Default 1998 Accord front speaker mounting depth

Hi:

I'm looking to replace the stock speakers. In the front, what's the depth?
I couldn't find it in the car manual. I found some nice Polk's, such as the
db6500, which have a 2-inch top-mount depth. Will that work?

Thanks.
Kevin

Hi:

Well, both if you know 'em. I'm looking to replace the woofers in the
door and also the tweeters, on the top of the dash.

Another question: Should I bother replacing the dash tweeters? Or, should I
just go for the 2-way door speakers and simply leave the dash tweeters
disconnected? The factory speakers don't put out enough (or at least crisp)
highs. But someone mentioned that having tweeters in the dash (squeezed
between the dash and the windshield) doesn't help too much.

Thanks again.
Kevin

do you mean the db650? They will fit but you might need a spacer 1/8 maybe
1/4 inch, but the cutout on the door is proper size for the polks

Hi:

Thanks for replying. I'm referring to the db6500's, they're the db650's but
with separate woofers and tweeters. Sounds like they'll fit. I'm probably
getting them from Crutchfield, who usually pretty good about providing
spacers and other adapters. I guess worse case I can make a spacer with a
bunch of washers.

Thanks again.
Kevin

the mid on the 6500's is the same size as the coax, and the tweet of the
6500's will fit in the dash

Not a good idea. You need a fairly tight seal between the speaker and
the opening or the sound will suffer. I recently replaced the factory
speakers in my front doors and on one of them I didn't tighten the screw
all the way. It left about a 1 mm gap between the speaker and the
opening. The sound was weak and with no bass whatsoever. Only when I
went to remove the speaker (to return it) did I discover the gap.
Another turn of the screwdriver and the sound is back where it should
be.

I got spacers (for 6 1/2" speakers) at a local sound system install
place. $5 for the pair.

Thanks again. One more thing.... Do you know anything about how the stock
speakers, tweeters and radio are wired up? Is there a separate crossover?
Did Honda simply solder a capacitor on the tweeter line? Or, is the
crossover built into the stock radio?

Thanks again.
Kevin
