Was passing a vehicle and suddenly my speedometer went to zero. The
"S" for the sport position of transmission is flashing and the check engine light is on. Is this the speed detect sensor failing? If so where the heck is the little bugger, I can't find any mention of it in my Haynes manual. Any help appreciated. Richard D |

Could also be a bad connector. An Acura dealer told me I needed a new speedometer after I had brought it in thinking it needed a new sensor. I wasn't confident in their diagnosis so I just left with it. They must have at least jiggled the right connector because I haven't had the problem since and that was three years ago. (The symptoms were that the speedometer wouldn't work for the first 3 - 5 miles. Very consistent.) |

I just need to find out if it is easily accessible and I might either change it myself or reseat the wires. Richard D |

As already mentioned, it's often a question of the connector making bad contact.. The electrical sensor pickup is mounted on and driven by the same shaft as the power steering speed modulator shown here http://tinyurl.com/2pcaw as part # 9 and which, as you can see, is mounted on the top rear of the differential/clutch/torque converter housing. The P/S modulator is easy to pinpoint by the two P/S fluid hoses attached to it. The electrical part is shown here http://tinyurl.com/22j2o - there seem to be two styles of part. If you take the electrical pickup off be careful not to lose the little "joint" pin. Rgds, George Macdonald "Just because they're paranoid doesn't mean you're not psychotic" - Who, me?? |

There's a few of those clangers at that site - even if it's just a decimal point in the wrong place it still seems a bit steep. Just a further thought on the electrical connector, in case you're not familiar with Honda connector "practices". The connector referenced in the diagram has a metal bracket and where a connector is latched on to a bracket like that, you usually cannot separate the electrical connection without first removing the assembly from the bracket.
