Default Re: CR-V stalls when stopping

Thanks for all the help. You guys saved me a bundle! From info I got
here and also stuff that I read at the CR-V forum at www.hondasuv.com
that "In His Footsteps" recommended, it sounded like it was most
probably a valve problem and that this was something that we needed to
jump on right away or risk serious damage.

So we took it to the dealer and had the valves adjusted yesterday
afternoon and also had them clean the injectors and throttle body.
This seems to have completely fixed the problem. They said that the
problem was primarily due to the tight valves and that we were very
lucky that the valves didn't burn though. They said that this is a
very common problem and that the valves need to be checked every
30,000 miles; they have had a lot of people come in with burnt valves
requiring very expensive repairs.

I'm going to check and see if I can tell when the valves were last
checked from the paperwork in our files. I think it was less then
30,000 miles ago.

Either Honda engine getting shitty or that the dealer set you up for
regular valve adjustment. I did a lot of valve adjustment on my 91 and 92
Civic. I don't do them any more. They were always within spec.

It' something to do with that later series of B18 and B20 engines - seems
like soft valve seats. My '99 Integra has the same thing where the valve
clearances close up - in fact from the factory they were not well adjusted
at all.
