Default Help! Problem with '89 Civic LX!!

Hi, my boyfriend has a '89 Civic LX. He was driving and we drove onto the on
ramp getting on the highway and his car shuts off! We had to pull over and
when he tried to restart it, it backfires. I don't know much about cars but
it sounds horrible when it backfires.. Also, when it does backfire a lot of
smoke comes out his exhaust pipe..

Q: Any idea what could have caused the car to stop while driving?

Q: How can we get it to start just to make it back to our house?

sounds like the timing belt jumped 2 teeth.
Have it towed home.

If it's off, realign the timing belt then drive home.

Well we finally got the car fixed.. If anyone runs across this problem check
your rotor cap under your distributor cap......
