I have a 95 Civic DX hatchback and there is a funny problem with the
drivers side door lock. From the inside I have to have the door handle pulled out to be able to lock or unlock the door, from the outside with the key it works fine, just the funny problem from the inside. Is this common, is it fixable, it's kind of annoying, never had a car that did that before so it doesn't seem right. David |

If you are talking about locking the door from the inside while the door
is open your car works as intended. It's in the manual. If you have to pull out the door handle to be able to lock the door even when the door is closed, then there is a problem. If I exit the vehicle, and wish to lock the door, I have to pull the interior release in order to lock the door. (This is not necessary to do on the passenger side). I've found that if I lock the door (drivers) this way, I'll have to pull the interior release to unlock the door... Of course, I can exit the car and use the key to lock the door... Rick |

That's how it is supposed to work with manual locks. My '93 Accord works in the same manner. |

This is a safety feature a lot of foreign cars had to prevent one from locking
him/herself out of the car. I had a 1988 626 that I had to hold the exterior handle out in order for the door to close. << > > I have a 95 Civic DX hatchback and there is a funny problem with the > drivers side door lock. If you have to do this when the door is CLOSED, then something is wrong. Please advise. -- TeGGeR® |

You know, I don't know if i've ever tried it while i'm sitting in the
car with the door closed, I will try that. As for looking in the owners manual, i would do that but there wasn't one when I bought the car. I'm sure it is working fine thought from what you all have said. The only reason I wanted to know was because I wanted to get a keyless entry system for the car wasn't sure if that little quirk would cause a problem with it or not, but I suppose if the door is closed when I hit the lock/unlock button, it should be fine. Thanks all for the help. David |

Snip a protruding stud found inside the latch mechanism. Is it easy to do. But prying the latch from the door is like trying to fish a lobster out of a catch net. Caution: I locked my keys inside while refueling. A nightmare in 20 years. -- Milo |

David,
I put power locks and keyless entry in a '94 Civic HB last year. Let me know if you want some photos and some notes on what I did wrong the first time around. On another note, I was also looking to put electric windows in the
car. There is this kit from a company called Electric Life for my car, has anyone had any experience with this kit, if so how did the installation go, any unforeseen problems or whatnot. It looks like the kit completely replaces the existing manual crank system with all new hardware, it's not just a motor turning the manual crank for you, so it seems like a high quality kit. http://www.electric-life.com/ I'll also post this up as a new thread as well as in this thread. |
