Default Need help w/paint color codes........

Hi,

We are trying to determine the correct color code for my son's 1991 Accord. The
door-jamb lists the code as BG26M-3. When we go to sites which list the
available colors for that year, only BG26M comes up. It is a dark green,
almost like hunter green. The color of my son's car is generally regarded as
"teal blue".

To make this matter more frustrating, even our local Honda dealer could not
locate the code listed above (how bad is that?). We are trying to order a
"painted' rear spoiler so as you can imagine the "right" color code is
imperative. Thanks in advance for your help w/this matter.....

Yes we considered that possibility, but no it is the original color. Just to
be sure, we located @ least a dozen cars which are the same color (same year)
for sale on the internet. But thanks for your thoughts....>Subject: Re: Need

The -3 is to account for subtle deviations from the basic color. If you
go to http://www.paintscratch.com and enter your vehicle information,
you will see at the top of the color selection page it asks you to
"Enter Factory Code". That is where the "3" goes. Also read
http://www.paintscratch.com/hondatag.htm

I would think that after 13 years of exposure to the elements the paint
on your car has changed enough that the -3 has lost much of its
relevance.

I'll bet your monitor is not displaying the color correctly.

Displaying color properly on a computer monitor, or even when printing it
off, is devilishly difficult. There is an entire industry in the graphics
trade whose job is solely to help art firms to calibrate their monitors and
printers correctly.

They also don't store the code for my '91 Integra, which is NH526M. The
parts guy tells me they only store codes for a certain number of years.

Call a body shop or automotive paint supply house. They necessarily carry
paint codes going much further back than the dealer ever would bother with.
Right back to the Ford Model-T, if it came to that!

Unless the paint is not the original color (easily told by looking at the
inner fenders in the engine compartment, which no one ever repaints), you
will see that the paint company's sample chip will be pretty much the same
as your code. A green shade won't fade much. Fading usually happens to
colors with red in them.

Thanks to all for your input. I didn't think choosing colors was so
complicated, but find it interesting just the same......

Have a good day! Jerry M.
