I bought a 2004 Accord LX-V6, and plan on replacing the stereo
because I want to play MP3s. From what I have found by looking at mount kits (I just ordered one from Crutchfield), it looks like the factory stereo will stay installed and the new stereo will mount in the compartment under the climate controls. I am assuming that connecting the new stereo will consist of installing a Honda wiring harness on the new stereo, unplugging the wiring harness from the factory stereo, and plugging it to the new stereo. This is how I did it with my '97 Avalon. I have a couple of concerns. Searching usenet for Honda stereo replacement info shows that at one time the alarm and remote keyless entry used the factory stereo. Is this still the case? Also, the Accord owners manual mentions (on page 154): "Once the security system is set, opening any door (without using the key or the remote transmitter), the hood, or the trunk will cause it to sound. It also sounds if the radio is removed from the dashboard or the wiring is cut." Does this mean that some wires need to remain on the factory unit, and, if so, are they on a separate connector from one(s) with the audio connections? Thanks for any info. |

Honda offers an MP3 accessory player which fits where the storage box usually is. Perhaps some aftermarket places do as well. Before just ripping out the Honda system consider adding their accessory. Check http://www.handaaccessories.com for info. John |

This is how I did it with my '97 Avalon. It actually hooks up to the old harness and to the new stereo. That way you keep the lights for your heater controls etc..the clock still works in the old deck as well. I put an MP3 player in. Now I would like a DVD player so you could record almost a 1000 mp3's on a single DVD. > >I have a couple of concerns. The stock deck is lousy for serious music listening, mine would heat the cd's to the point you could barely hold them, IF it would eject them. >Thanks for any info. You're welcome. |
