Default Stereo Replacement

I'd like to put a new stereo into my '97 Civic 1.4 but can anyone tell me
how to remove the old one?! It's the factory fit radio/cd.

You're welcome, someone else posted it for me when I had a few questions
so I'm just passing along the favor.

I've been looking at that pdf that was posted and everything seems ok but i
don't like the bit about leaving the old radio in the car because of the
central locking! The car uses infra red and not radio for its control -
would this mean that the radio still has to be left in the car? The car is
a UK model and the installdr.com site seems to have USA spec vehicles - is
is a USA only thing?

Removing the stereo is not all that much work. If I were you, I'd just
remove the factory stereo and check if everything still works. On the US
model the central locking would work regardless of the factory stereo
being there or not, it was only the keyless remote that needed the
factory stereo. The signal for the dome light also went through the
stereo but it is easy to bypass this.

I agree that the thought of leaving the factory stereo inside the dash
is unattractive. If your remote receiver resides inside the factory
stereo, you could put in an after-market keyless remote system instead
of hiding the factory stereo in there. I got a keyless remote system for
under $40 in the US.
