Most auto stores or even large department stores carry them for around $10. Pete |

Honda's smoothing algorithm results in silly long time for the gauge to adjust to changed conditions. Sometimes 20 minutes or more of at speed driving is required before you get an accurate number. Almost useless. If you really want one, buy and install one of the many aftermarket jobs. John |

It reads consistently high but it does give some relative idea of what the temperature is. > Almost useless. If you really want one, buy and install one of the many > aftermarket jobs. He's not missing a lot. I wouldn't pay $10 for my "built-in" digital readout. I love my 2003 EX V6 Coupe, but the temp guage is not something to lust over. Casey |

I agree on the value of the built-in temperature gauge. The one in my
Passat works very well. I get a good read very quickly as I start to drive. The Honda takes forever as they have over compensated to avoid erratic fluctuations. The temp outside this morning was -15 degrees and my garage thermometer said about 5 degrees. The car temp gauge said 2 as I pulled away. 10-15 minutes later driving through town, the gauge had only gotten down to about -8. It took half the drive to start to move at all. In my view, there are two reasons to have a temperature gauge. One is you are cruising on a long trip and the gauge helps alert you to the fact that it is approaching freezing on the road. The other is you hop in the car and wonder how cold or hot it really is. This gauge works for the former, but not the latter. I'm surprised by all these comments because the gauge in my 2002 CR-V seems to be working just fine. I adjusted the offset when I first got the car (somebody provided the sequence) and it worked fine ever since. |

How do you adjust the offset? I've just gotten used to it reading
about 4 degrees too high. I didn't realize I could adjust that. Still doesn't solve the problem of how long it takes to register. You don't have that problem? Here's the silly: Feb. '03 Service News
Indicator Logic: ’03 Accord On ’03 Accord EXs with leather and ’03 Accord EX V6s, the outside temperature indicator keeps bogus readings to a minimum by delaying the refreshing of the display until you’re driving the vehicle faster than 19 mph, and by limiting the display change rate. Here’s how the logic works: When you turn the ignition switch to ON (II): • If the engine coolant temperature is less than 60°C (140°F), the display shows the current outside air temperature. • If the engine coolant temperature is greater than 60°C (140°F), the display shows the temperature that was stored in memory when you turned the switch to LOCK (0). The display doesn’t refresh from this reading until you drive the vehicle faster than 19 mph for at least 90 seconds. Once this criteria is met: • If the measured outside air temperature is greater than the displayed temperature, the displayed temperature rises 1°C per minute (about 1.8°F) until the two temperatures match. • If the measured outside air temperature is less than the displayed temperature, the displayed temperature drops to match the measured outside air temperature after about 20 seconds. If you need to calibrate the outside temperature indicator, refer to page 22-240 of the 2003 Accord S/M. Here's how the logic works: Nice theory, but in practice the Honda outside temp. gauge is much less usable than is the similar feature on our Oldsmobile minivan. Honda spent too much time theorizing about the issues and not enough time in real life use testing. John |

Agreed; Honda over thought the operation of this meter.
