Default Defroster AC?

Jees, I'm tired of the AC coming on every time I turn the knob to de-frost!
Have a 2000 Civic DX here and I can't understand why that's set-up that way?
Doesn't Honda realize I am quite capable of determining when I want the
compressor to run?

Anyway to change that?

Thanks

Read the "2002 Civic Heater/AC functionality" thread. It will tell you
where you might find directions on how to turn off that feature.

One reason, there are several others, is to insure the compressor
gets lubricated often during cold weather. Most common cause for
the failure of any AC compressor, including those in your home,
is the lack of lubrication at start up
after not being used for months. Your local HVAC tech can explain
to you the why and how to avoid the problem if you
do not want the composer coming on

Our idiot returns...

Where you been Mikey...back from the village?

Seems you have changed your opinion on why an a/c compressor runs in defrost
mode.

Gee...wonder why that is... [huuuuge grin]

The AC runs when the defrost is on so that it supplies dry air to the
windshield... thus facilitating the defogging of the windshield.
Personally, I like the feature. There must have been some designer who
said, "Jees, I hate having to turn on the AC everytime I turn the knob to
de-frost! Anyway to change that?"

I understand that, I just would like to be the one turning it on. I'm quite
capable.

Fair enough, but why then did you ask;

> I can't understand why that's set-up that way?

I was merely answering your question, with ONE reason WHY it was
set-up that way.

That same arguement could be said for you wanting to turn it off. It's a
small demand so quit your whining.
