Honda Car Forum

I am just getting started on a project to tune a 1994 Honda Accord EX,
and was wondering about the interchangability level of parts between
Honda and Acura models. This is my first foray into performance
tuning Hondas (I am a recovering gearhead from the glory days of the
60/70s).

well here is a list of all honda/acura engine codes, the ones that line
up are interchangable, usually engine types (d series etc) are similar
and certain internals, heads, etc are interchangable.
i would also suggest going to automotiveforums.com, there are lots of
guys there who know far more than i do.

Most of the after market suppliers NAPA , PARTS AMERICA etc (Kragen on the
left coast) put part numbers on the item. If the part numbers match when you
search for each car you should have an interchangeable part. I am working on
a MR2 right now and needed a catalytic converter for it the Camry and MR2
in 86 use the same item based on a part item and part number search. wolf

Something wrong here. The conventional 1237cc engine had 52 hp. The
CVCC had 63hp.

But the 1237 was the Honda lover's engine. Reved like a Banshee and
it weighed a lot less than the iron block CVCC motor.

i think u wrote that backwards. the CVCC engine was designed as low
emmissions engine, plus the 1.2 had other characeristics (head design)
that allowed it to make some more hp, the 1.2's head resembles most
modern honda/acura engines, the CVCC does not.

the seond generation of the CVCC was the EM1 which had 63 hp as well

Well, you made me doubt my sanity so I had to look it up. (I used to
own a '74 Civic and it was a great car for its day. I remember it
being advertised as 52hp though it was faster than other cars claiming
more.)

A 1,169cc (or about 70-cubic-inch) inline four-cylinder engine
motivated the first-year [1973] Civic and put out 50 horsepower. This
was an impressive output when considered in terms of power per unit of
displacement: The Civic had 0.71 horsepower per cubic inch. And with a
weight of only around 1,500 pounds, a whole lot of power wasn't needed
to propel the Civic.
