Was the brake pedal allowed to go to the floor at any time during the
caliper replacement or bleeding afterwards?

Default 89 Prelude brake problem

Hi we have an 89 Prelude with four wheel steering and the rear calipers were froze up and I replaced them and now the pedal goes to the floor while setting holding the brakes as if the master cylinder is bad I've bled the system several times per Honda's service manual and still the same thing. Could the Master cylinder of been bad and somehow not shown up untill working calipers were installed? Could the new calipers be bad? Or does anyone know what's up?

During the bleeding process pressure was applied to the pedal, bleeder was opened at calipers (one wheel at a time)letting pedal go to the floor each time..holding it there until the bleeder was tightened.

There's your answer. The unused part of the MC bore gets crudded up. When
you used the pedal pump method, you scraped up the rubber seals on the
crudded up portion of the bore.

You MUST use the pedal pump method from new, every year or two years, in
order to prevent that crud from building up and wrecking your master
cylinder. If the brakes haven't been done in a long time, you need a Mity
Vac or the "gravity" bleeding method so the pedal can be left alone.

You need to rebuild or replace your master cylinder.

Thanks TeGGeR® I really appreciate the info. Can't wait to get it taken care of. I knew it acted like the MC but I didn't want to spend money on one until I knew for sure. I understand now how that would mess up the seals. Again thanks for taking time to help.
